Home Additions & Extensions

Home extension and second storey addition by Mammateur

More Space Without Moving

When your family outgrows your home, you face a choice: move to a bigger property or extend the one you already love. At Mammateur, we make the second option not only possible but genuinely exciting. Our home additions and extensions are engineered to integrate seamlessly with your existing structure, adding the rooms, living areas and storage your household needs while enhancing your property's value and street appeal.

Every addition project is unique. A Queenslander on stumps demands a different approach to a double-brick home in Melbourne's suburbs or a weatherboard cottage in regional New South Wales. Our design team evaluates your site, soil conditions, local planning controls and the existing building's structural capacity before presenting a solution that is both architecturally sympathetic and fully compliant with council requirements.

What's Included

Our Approach to Home Additions

Second storey additions are one of the most effective ways to double your living space without sacrificing your backyard. Our structural engineers design lightweight steel or timber-framed upper levels that distribute loads safely through your existing walls and footings, with temporary propping systems that allow you to remain in your home for much of the build. Roof connections, flashing details and external cladding are all designed to match the original dwelling, creating a result that looks as though the upper level was always part of the plan.

Ground floor extensions are ideal for homes on larger lots where there is room to expand outward. Whether you need an open-plan kitchen and family room flowing to an alfresco area, an additional bedroom wing for a growing family, or a dedicated home office with its own entrance, we design and build extensions that feel like a natural continuation of your home rather than an awkward bolt-on. Matching materials — roof tiles, brickwork, window profiles — is something we take particular care with.

Lift and build-under construction is popular across Queensland, northern New South Wales and parts of regional Australia. The existing home is raised on temporary supports, new steel or concrete stumps are installed at the desired height, and a brand-new ground level is constructed beneath. This approach preserves the character of the original home while creating a modern lower level that typically includes living areas, a bathroom, a laundry and a garage. It also improves flood resilience in areas where floor heights need to be raised to meet current council standards.

Granny flats and secondary dwellings have become an increasingly popular addition in many Australian council areas, offering flexible accommodation for elderly parents, adult children or tenants. Mammateur builds fully self-contained granny flats ranging from studio layouts to two-bedroom dwellings. Each is designed to comply with the relevant state planning instruments — including the NSW Affordable Rental Housing SEPP and equivalent policies in other states — and is finished to the same standard as the primary residence.

Navigating council approvals is a significant part of any additions project, and it's one we manage on your behalf. Our in-house team prepares all required documentation including site plans, shadow diagrams, BASIX certificates, bushfire assessments and stormwater management plans. We liaise directly with council officers and private certifiers to secure approval efficiently, keeping your project moving without unnecessary delays.
